Recorded at TAIB, the historic theater of “Casa do Povo” (a landmark of São Paulo’s Jewish diasporas center) and integrating to this environment, Aló by João Barisbe & Juliano Abramovay is the result of the duo's research on tradition and memory in the music of Arab, Jewish and Mediterranean diasporas in contact with Brazilian contemporary culture. Seeking to answer how this "wind" that comes from afar connects with nowadays culture of another place, "Aló" is a record about today and yesterday.

The tracks feature motifs, scales, and compositional techniques from Eastern Mediterranean music mixed with elements of free improvisation. As the Oud is a non-tempered instrument, the duo also works with tunings not common in Western music. The sound result is connected at the same time with the Eastern musical past and current musical experimentations.
